Cebu Paranormal Society was formulated by the Order of the Mystic Arts, an occult study group composed of occult practitioners, as a subgroup in charge of its more public activities. Recently, due to its inactive status, Order of the Mystic Arts was dissolved and CPS is now on its way to becoming an independent entity, an organization in and of itself, with its own by-laws and objectives.
- Is the Paranormal occult?
The word “occult” means “hidden”. The paranormal world and the techniques and methods used to perceive it are considered occult simply because they are not mainstream. The exploration of the paranormal and the use of abilities categorized as “psychic” have been demonized by orthodox religion. But the truth is, these abilities exist and can be developed by everyone who takes an interest in it and keep an open mind. - Do you have to be psychic to join the group?
Yes and No. “Yes” because everyone is psychic to a degree. And “No” because you can develop psychic gifts if you simply keep an open mind, a keen interest, and a passionate commitment to develop your potential. Having “no psychic ability” is not a hindrance to mastering them as they are our divine right as humans. - Is joining the organization against the tenets of any religion?
Joining any organization whose aim is to develop our inherent psychic gifts is not against any religion whatsoever. Unless you make it so. It is your own decision to believe it is evil and heretical or not. The organization is non-sectarian and is not exclusive to certain faiths. New Age spirituality is an inclusive philosophy and way of life. A cult is defined as “A religion or sect considered to be false, unorthodox, or extremist, with members often living outside of conventional society under the direction of a charismatic leader”(The Random House Unabridged Dictionary). Therefore CPS is not a cult since we live our own individual lives in conventional society and gather only for events organized by the group in order to study and explore the realm of the paranormal and especially the realm of the human mind. There is no charismatic leader who requires complete obedience and adoration from his/her members. There is no animal sacrifice, “satanic” orgies, ritual killings, etc. in any of the activities of the group. The group however respects any member who may do these things in his own capacity as part of his/her spiritual practice sans the ritual murders. Animal sacrifice is a vital part in tribal society religions like voodoo, Candomble, Palo Mayombe, Santeria, etc. CPS, however, is not a religious group.
You may request to join the group by e-mailing the organization and making an appointment to meet with the members. Terms of membership will be discussed with if you inform the officers or any member of your interest in joining. - Is there a membership fee?
No, there is no membership fee. There is, however, a monthly membership due. Official members are asked to pay One hundred pesos only (P100.00) per month. The fund will be used as buffer funds for the organization’s activities or events.
